Will all future female presidents go by their first name as well?

Probably not. I think Hillary is known as "Hillary" rather than "Clinton" because:

a) She was already a known entity (before her run for Presidential nominee or even the Senate) because she was First Lady when Bill Clinton was President.

b) Calling her merely "Clinton" would lump her together with Bill ... implying that she shared his identity(?) and was not a candidate in her own right.

c) Calling a lady by her last name only seems a bit ... ummm ... discourteous?

(That last part was just my opinion!)

ADDED: If she does indeed become President, she will correctly be called "President Clinton" ... but, we'll probably still refer to her as "Hillary" ... just as we call George W. Bush "Dubya" ... (among other things we call him, most of which aren't so flattering!)

Will all future female presidents go by their first name as well?
Only those with the same last name as a recent, still living, President.

As Presidents with the same name are known by their middle initials.
Reply:probably not. Hillary does it becuase she wants people to know she is not running on the shadow of her husband, she wants people to know she is her own person and it is going to be her administration in the WH.
Reply:I'm guessing all future candidates who share a last name and a home with a ex-president will go by their first names. Otherwise it's just too confusing.
Reply:Nah, they just have to call her by her first name so that no one thinks they are talking about Bill.
