Can I apply for a job using my middle name instead of my first name?

My first name is kind of different, so I was wondering if I could use my middle name to apply for jobs?

Can I apply for a job using my middle name instead of my first name?
My brother's always gone by his middle name. He puts that on his applications and resumes, but after he's hired he fills out his tax paperwork and stuff using his full name. My mom does hiring and she says that's what he should do.
Reply:No you cannot just change your name because you are shy to use the different name you were given when you were born.

Be proud that it's different and not something so common.

You can't just use a different name because everything that is registered to you (credit cards, SS Card, etc.) is registered in your first name and putting it on applications and then getting hired and putting something entirely different is going to be confusing for them, (and government agencies).

Just put your first and middle name on the application and if you get hired tell everyone to call you by your middle name. but for office and official purposes, your first name is what you use.
Reply:You need to give them the name that is on your Social Security Card. Otherwise when they do background checks or verify information you there is going to be problems. You can tell your interviewer that you go by your middle name right from the start and they will call you by that. I know on a lot of applications they will ask for your full legal name and then ask what you like to be called. At that point you can put your middle name.
Reply:Yes, you can call yourself what you like but be sure to tell your employers. I think this might hamper your chances a little though of getting your job cos it's a bit weird.

what is you name then we can tell you if it's strange.
Reply:You should use your full legal name for any background check purposes and tax and social security as well as medical insurance, etc. - then when you get the job, let them know that you go by your middle name.
Reply:You need to use your legal name for tax purposes and social security purposes. You can tell them that you go by your middle name though.
Reply:Your name has to match what is on your birth certificate/social security card. If you dont like your first name you can get your name legally changed in the court system.
Reply:Use your first name and then once you get hired tell them you like if they use your middle name because its not so weird, but for the paper work they need your first name due to with holding with the irs.
Reply:Yes. My brother's first name is Finnish and very difficult to pronounce. He uses his first initial and middle name-- W. Paul. He's never had a problem with this.
Reply:just put your full name, and write or mention that you go by your middle name.
