Receiving credit card offers with my first name being different?

I have been receiving credit card offers in the mail with my first name being totally different that what it actually is but, my last name being spelled correct. Also when updating my gym membership information this mysterious name was on file.....when before it was my correct name Should I be concerned with identity theft?

Receiving credit card offers with my first name being different?
More likely the gym made a typo and passed it along to the credit bureau or to a mailing list. Over the years, I've gotten all sorts of mangled spellings of my first or last name.
Reply:Better safe thatn sorry.

Contact the card companies (you can do that online) and question the name, ask the gym the same question.

It's vaguely possible that a person with that name exists and your two sets of information have "melded" somewhere in the system, but follow it up.

If you already have a credit card check with that provider that they have ONLY your correct name in their system and let them know about the "ghost" name.
Reply:Check all three of your credit reports (Transunion, Equifax, and Experian). If any show accounts that are not yours, then yes, you should be concerned.

If all the accounts shown are yours, then there is probably not a reason to be concerned.

Can I find a picture of someone with just a first name and where they work?

If so, how and where?

Can I find a picture of someone with just a first name and where they work?
how many Joe's do you think work at Costco?
Reply:I'd say there's only a shot if the place they work at is a local business (not a chain). If they work at Wal-Mart, the internet'll give you a million hits. A relatively uncommon first name would help as well.

The most likely place to find a picture of them would probably be somewhere like Myspace.
Reply:I wouldn't hold your breath.

How can I contact my teacher if I only know his/her last name and the first letter of his/her first name?

I've tried to find my teacher on Yellow Pages both online and in the book and nothing works. The teacher whose number I'm trying to contact is my current teacher and I really need to ask him a question about my final grade for his class. His name is Mr. A. Carrelli ("A" is the first letter of his name) and he teaches in Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn, New York. He's obviously a male and I think he's 27 years old.

I know there's gotta be a site the has a listing of almost all the teachers across the United States, because I remember having a very nice teacher two years ago who asked us to give him a rating on some website and I can't remember what it was. Please help if you can. I guarranty you 12 points.

How can I contact my teacher if I only know his/her last name and the first letter of his/her first name?
try going to class
Reply:fcuk u, you 'sshole! I'm no cutter, and your answer DID NOT HELP ME. In fact, there's no one that deserves a best answer here. So you DO NOT DESERVE THOSE POINTS!!! Report Abuse

Reply:Call the main office at your school. Speak to him during office hours.

It would be HIGHLY inappropriate for you to contact a teacher at home without express permission.

Furthermore, it could be misinterpreted by your parents and get him into trouble.

Unfortunately, this is the society we live in. Do this one by the book.
Reply:ok go to the school's web page click on faculty/teachers go to the teacher's name and then you can get the teacher's e-mail address. that is how I do it at my school.

Is it okay to use your middle name as your first name on school registrations and everything else?

No, you should use your full legal name. Usually, educational forms will have a place to put your "preferred" name, so you can put your middle name there if that's what you go by.

Is it okay to use your middle name as your first name on school registrations and everything else?
Yes it is ok . Once you start using your middle name that's the name that you will be going by.

Is it a dumb idea to have a signature that is just my first name?

What do you think? I have been signing documents for years with just my first name, it is a unique first name and I guess I was just too lazy to write the whole thing out so it sort of stuck. Is it dumb to sign just my first name or should I go back to the drawing board with my signature and put the whole name in there?

Is it a dumb idea to have a signature that is just my first name?
For a signature to be considered legal you must sign your first and last name.
Reply:not at all, more sensibly thinking some people have both first and last names the same - that's way they use social security numbers, etc, to identify people.
Reply:Usually for legal documents it is necessary to sign your first and last name. It is your signature though, so if you dont want to learn how to write your last name really cool and neat, just scribble some lines. Doctors do it all the time, my friend hates signing his name so he just writes the first letter of his first name, scribbles, then the first letter of his last name and scribbles.
Reply:I just scribble a line that no one can read..its my first and last name run together but since no one can read it the content doesn't matter..but its unique to me..even my wife cant forge it

Can someone please write my name out in simplified Chinese? My first name is Japanese?

My first name is Meko (pronounced like Meeko the raccoon from Pocahontas) and my middle name is Lin which is Chinese. Thanks.

Can someone please write my name out in simplified Chinese? My first name is Japanese?
you might want to try telling us what your name in japanese means, then we would be able to come up with charactors for that word for chinese.... my middle name is LIN too. chinese, after my (ah-mahs) middle name.
Reply:well,

If you have kanji for your japanese name it would be easier. I am not Japanese but I find "Meko" doesn't sound like a usual name in Japan. Maybe it would be written : 明子 (I see few possibilities)

Turning in Chinese we could call you like :

明子 (prononced "ming zi") 林 "lin" or 琳 "lin"

But in Chinese 明子 could sometime mean resinous wood !

The 2 Lin above are meaning "wood" or "nice jade"
Reply:Don't ask this on an English board... try a Chinese board... probably someone will be able to read English and answer you w/ the chinese symbols

Can I apply for a job using my middle name instead of my first name?

My first name is kind of different, so I was wondering if I could use my middle name to apply for jobs?

Can I apply for a job using my middle name instead of my first name?
My brother's always gone by his middle name. He puts that on his applications and resumes, but after he's hired he fills out his tax paperwork and stuff using his full name. My mom does hiring and she says that's what he should do.
Reply:No you cannot just change your name because you are shy to use the different name you were given when you were born.

Be proud that it's different and not something so common.

You can't just use a different name because everything that is registered to you (credit cards, SS Card, etc.) is registered in your first name and putting it on applications and then getting hired and putting something entirely different is going to be confusing for them, (and government agencies).

Just put your first and middle name on the application and if you get hired tell everyone to call you by your middle name. but for office and official purposes, your first name is what you use.
Reply:You need to give them the name that is on your Social Security Card. Otherwise when they do background checks or verify information you there is going to be problems. You can tell your interviewer that you go by your middle name right from the start and they will call you by that. I know on a lot of applications they will ask for your full legal name and then ask what you like to be called. At that point you can put your middle name.
Reply:Yes, you can call yourself what you like but be sure to tell your employers. I think this might hamper your chances a little though of getting your job cos it's a bit weird.

what is you name then we can tell you if it's strange.
Reply:You should use your full legal name for any background check purposes and tax and social security as well as medical insurance, etc. - then when you get the job, let them know that you go by your middle name.
Reply:You need to use your legal name for tax purposes and social security purposes. You can tell them that you go by your middle name though.
Reply:Your name has to match what is on your birth certificate/social security card. If you dont like your first name you can get your name legally changed in the court system.
Reply:Use your first name and then once you get hired tell them you like if they use your middle name because its not so weird, but for the paper work they need your first name due to with holding with the irs.
Reply:Yes. My brother's first name is Finnish and very difficult to pronounce. He uses his first initial and middle name-- W. Paul. He's never had a problem with this.
Reply:just put your full name, and write or mention that you go by your middle name.

Is there a way to have my iphone contacts in order by first name?
Super simple

In the iPhone go to settings

click on mail, Contacts, Calendars

Scroll down to Contacts and click on display order

Click on First, Last :)

What would be a good middle name for these first names?

Will all future female presidents go by their first name as well?

Probably not. I think Hillary is known as "Hillary" rather than "Clinton" because:

a) She was already a known entity (before her run for Presidential nominee or even the Senate) because she was First Lady when Bill Clinton was President.

b) Calling her merely "Clinton" would lump her together with Bill ... implying that she shared his identity(?) and was not a candidate in her own right.

c) Calling a lady by her last name only seems a bit ... ummm ... discourteous?

(That last part was just my opinion!)

ADDED: If she does indeed become President, she will correctly be called "President Clinton" ... but, we'll probably still refer to her as "Hillary" ... just as we call George W. Bush "Dubya" ... (among other things we call him, most of which aren't so flattering!)

Will all future female presidents go by their first name as well?
Only those with the same last name as a recent, still living, President.

As Presidents with the same name are known by their middle initials.
Reply:probably not. Hillary does it becuase she wants people to know she is not running on the shadow of her husband, she wants people to know she is her own person and it is going to be her administration in the WH.
Reply:I'm guessing all future candidates who share a last name and a home with a ex-president will go by their first names. Otherwise it's just too confusing.
Reply:Nah, they just have to call her by her first name so that no one thinks they are talking about Bill.

What do you think of Carnaby as a first name?

What do you think of Carnaby as a first name. Which sex do you think it suits most or is it equal?

What do you think of Carnaby as a first name?
It makes me think of Carnivor, or Carny or Carnival. If you really like it though, I would prefer it for a boys name. I prefer that boys names sound masculine and girls names sound feminine, and Carnaby, doesnt sound very feminine.
Reply:I think its Odd. Is it a family name, like someone's last name? That's the only way I would use it. I think it sounds masculine, like Barnaby.
Reply:interesting...i don't like it. it would be for a boy, but it reminds me of something australian, like wallaby or canbarra.
Reply:Girl? I don't really like it.
Reply:I think boy. And I don't really like it.. sorry:(
Reply:Mmmm...no, sorry, not my cup of tea.

Should students call high school teachers by first name?

Is it appropriate for high school teachers to allow students to call them by their first name? Is it different for substitute teachers? What about auxiliary positions like coaches and coordinators? I will read every answer before awarding the points so take your time and feel free to edit your response.

Should students call high school teachers by first name?
Ultimately, it's up to the individual teacher.

However, I think teachers who encourage their students to call them by their first names are having severe Peter Pan issues, and don't want to grow up. I'm sure some of the students feel embarrassed calling their teacher "Fred" or "Judy" too.

Any teacher should post his or her preferred name somewhere in the classroom. The students should use it.

Coaches should get the honorific "Coach Knute" or whatever their last name is.

Co-ordinators . . . should use their last names with the appropriate honorific if they want to be taken seriously.

Counsellors might consider the students case by case. There may be students who respond better to a first-name relationship, but . . . it's tricky.

I teach at various schools (kind of a guest-teacher), and my co-worker, who has the same job, goes by his first name. But, in his case, he has valid reasons. We teach in Japan, and kids just murder his last name. They murder his first name, too, so he has the kids call him "Mike-sensei." In my case, kids would murder my first name, but they do well with my last name, so I prefer Mrs. M.

Of course, by my user name, you can see I take honorifics seriously (-:.

Interesting question!

Reply:umm i've only called two teachers by thier first name and i barely ever did

i think while students are in school before high school they should call them by the teachers last name

but once their in high school and the teacher is cool and doesn't mind they can call them by their first name

kids barely ever know subs names and when they do get their attention i think they should call the teacher by their last name
Reply:Well, is not really appropriate, so with the coaches, i call my coach, just coach, or Sir, and for the teachers, i call them by their last name, i think is really inappropriate for a student to call a elder (teacher) by their first name, this is my opinion of course, i like respecting teachers, not hi 5 them or anything like that.
Reply:If the teacher allows it and encourages, I don't see why it's inappropriate. But in general, it's polite and respectful to address ALL elders/adults as Mr./Mrs LastName. This is especially true for people with authority, like teachers.

Why do they call Galileo by his first name?

Is it just because it sounds like Galilei?

You don't hear people call Newton Isaac, or Einstein Albert.

Why do they call Galileo by his first name?
He is from the land of people with one name, such as Michelangelo, Elvis, Cher, Pliny, Euclid, Nostradamus, and Copernicus. Everyone knows them by one name and it seems superfluous to say the entire name every time they are referred to. Galileo is the only person we know about with that name. There are many thousands of Isaacs and Alberts. If you referred to them using only their first names, no one would know who you were talking about.
Reply:Sometimes it's done that way. I see "Tycho," "Jesus," many in the Bible, "Abraham," "Moses," "King David" "Herod," "Caesar," and Hannibal" referrred to that way sometimes.
Reply:why do they call you Adam? because its your FIRST name.

if you want your first curb stomp... gimme a call
Reply:first names cool enough!! it sounds pretty sweet!
Reply:Good question. At first, I was going to say that they used first names more commonly in Galileo's day (thinking of Tycho [Brahe] as an example), but then I remembered [Nicolas] Copernicus as a counterexample. On the other hand, maybe they did: Leonardo [da Vinci] and Michelangelo [di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni] are just two more examples.

As long as it's clear whom you're discussing, I guess it doesn't matter.
Reply:I think it has to do with Italy at the time. First names seem to be what people were called by in most literature I have seen from his age. Also we cannot call Newton or Einstein by their first names because they are too common, there have been many Alberts an Isaacs but not many Galileos.
Reply:It's unique enough. Isaac can be mistaken for some Biblical character and Albert for, well, Fat Albert?
Reply:Galileo's full name is Galileo di Vincenzo Bonaiuti de' Galilei. The last part, "di Vincenzo Bonaiuti de' Galilei," I believe is a patronymic (meaning "son of Vincenzo Bonaiuti of Galilei" or - his father's name). It makes more sense to refer to Galileo by his first name rather than his less-famous father's name
Reply:Ha. Good question. I've wondered about that myself. Your right, you don't hear people say, "Wow. That was such a 'tard thing you did at school today. Your such an Albert." I mean it doesn't have the same impact as saying, "Wow. That was such a 'tard thing you did at school today. Your such an Einstein." That sounds much better. I have no idea why we call Galileo by his first name. Maybe he was a very friendly guy?

I'm such an Albert, maybe you'll pick my answer as Best Answer.

Which middle name flows better with the first name?

1) Tristan Christopher

2) Tristan Jeremiah

Christopher has sentimental value to me but people like Jeremiah better. Which one do you like?

Which middle name flows better with the first name?
Tristan Christopher doesn't flow as well, sorry. The tongue stumbles over it.

If Christopher has sentimental value, why not use it as a first name?
Reply:Tristan Christopher is a lot cuter and sounds really good. Plus you should go with what you feel in your heart. Hes gonna be your little boy.
Reply:I think Tristan Christopher sounds a little too much like a tongue twister. Jeremiah is nice, though I have to say I agree that maybe you should just use Christopher for a first name. It's not nearly as popular as it once was, and there are guaranteed to be fewer Christophers than Tristans in your son's school classes these days! Good luck with your baby :)
Reply:the first one is a tongue twister sooooo....2 wins by default
Reply:I prefer Jeremiah. The two "is" sounds in a row just doesn't flow as nicely as Jeremiah.
Reply:I think you should go with Tristan Christopher. It doesn't flow quite as well, but it's a great name and has sentimental value - I say go for it!
Reply:I like Jeremiah, sounds better
Reply:Tristan Christopher - lovely name!
Reply:Name him Christopher Tristan. But if not, Tristan Jeremiah.
Reply:I prefer Tristan Christopher, but Tristan Jeremiah flows better.

There's too many "ris" sounds in Tristan Christopher.
Reply:Go with the name that has sentimental value.

I personally don't care for the fluff middle names just there to make it "flow".
Reply:Tristan Jeremiah does flow better, but you might want to try Christopher Tristan if Christopher is close to heart for you.
Reply:tristan christopher seems like a mouthfull. but since you love the name Christopher, why not go with Chistopher Tristan? Seems to have a better flow that way.
Reply:jeremiah does flow better but its not like ur going to call him by both names!
Reply:1- definetly , I think it flows better with christopher rather than jeremiah
Reply:Bc of sentinemetal value, just use Christopher... both combinations seem a bit too much... plus, ppl will only use the first name.
Reply:I think they are both equally cute. :) Do what is most important to you--it's a middle name, not a first, so it should be special to you.
Reply:FIRST ONE!

My tax check came in and my first name was slightly misspelled...is this a big deal?

Its Cassandra but they wrote it to Casandra. I'm sure the bank will still cash it but should I alert the IRS? Does it make a difference?

My tax check came in and my first name was slightly misspelled...is this a big deal?
Did you efile? If so, it's probably your error, or your preparer/s.

Cash the check and don't worry about it. If it were your last name, it could be a problem, but not the first name. Don't worry about it.
Reply:Just cash it. Next year, e-file -- then they won't have a chance to misspell it when they are keypunching your data.

What was the first name of the person who turned U into the proud bisexual person you are NOW?

Her name was Misty [well it was Melissa but I called her Misty 'cause she had blue hair]. I was fifteen. =]

It's funny too - after my husband and I got married we realized that he knew a friend of Misty's. So despite not being with her any more, we still stay in contact [almost 10 years now].

Although it was so much of turning me into the bi person I am as much as helping me come to terms with it. That make sense? =]

What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?

Face facts - that is just one of those jobs that will never be recognised and people rarely care who it is that cleans up after them. There are many such professions out there and we would be lost without those people doing those things for us... would you like to be the person who cleans out the sewage pipes?

What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?
betty she was so sweet! :)
Reply:Hmm... :| I didn't see a janitor. The school was just magically clean the next day. However, I was told that his name was Rufus. If he dressed like a woman, I'll never know.

However, that was in one of the many elementary schools i attended. I don't know about high school or university.

One of the best things a teacher (or student for that matter), can do is get to know the people who really keep the school running. They are not only handy to have on your side when it comes to needing something, but they know a lot of handy info too. (and quite often are just nice, interesting people.

How would I find someones last name in Chicago?.I know the first name and age...?

My brother met a young lady a couple of years ago and really needs to get in contact with her. The problem is he doesn't know her last name and she moved from her last known address. I know she still lives in Chicago but I keep running into dead ends...Please anyone...ideas?

How would I find someones last name in Chicago?.I know the first name and age...?
What's her name? Where did they meet? Maybe she still goes there. What did she look like? Where did she work at? Do for a living? Hobbies? If we knew more info maybe someone actually knows her or someone who does. Have you tried going to her old address and asking neighbors? Yeah Chicago is a big city but I'm always amazed at how interconnected we all are. Chances are anyone I meet knows someone I know or someone they know and so on, six degrees of separation! For example, I used to work somewhere that employed over 300 people but I knew most of them at any given time and still run into many of them from time to time.
Reply:There are 3.5 million people in metro Chicago at any given point in time. If you have her last known address, you can try doing a reverse directory search on WhitePages.com to see if the old listing or new listing come up. You could contact the owner of the building and see if she left a forwarding address and s/he would be kind enough to pass along a letter for your brother. Otherwise, there's not much there to work with.
Reply:Go to the public library. Look through the old city directories. Remember that the 2003 directory was compiled from data collected in 2002. City directories have a reverse directory section, where people are listed by address, not by name.

(That is,

100 A Street - John Smith

101 A Street - Tom Jones

104 A Street - Bill Brown

etc.)

If you find her first name at the address, you've got her last name. You probably won't, but if you have an afternoon it is worth a try.
Reply:If he knows her previous address, he should be able to look her up in an older phone book and get her last name that way.
Reply:You should at least have a little information about her, and if you do try these sites:

Go to your public library and ask for reference books listing the names of all employees of every business. Those books list people by residence, names of spouses, names of children, phone numbers, where they work...
Reply:Why do you want to know more about him? If you're going to stalk him, then that's weird.

Maybe you should get advice from an official body, or speak to your solicitor, since you'll need one of these to sue him anyway.
Reply:call his work and act like a telemarketer and just say the first name and mumble something quiet like you don't know how to pronounce the last name and see if the receptionist spills the beans.
Reply:I don't understand what this question has to do with genealogy.

Hire a detective to find out his full name and home address because you'll need that , too.

At what age do you stop saying "Mrs. Smith" and start saying the persons first name?

And in what situations?

At what age do you stop saying "Mrs. Smith" and start saying the persons first name?
At the age that Mr. or Mrs. Smith says it's okay to call them by their first names... my kids wait until they're given permission.
Reply:It's appropriate to call anyone your elder by the "Mrs. Smith" and no matter how old you get, they're always going to be older than you.

I think it's more appropriate to use first names, when the "Mrs. Smith" asks you to please use her first name instead. If she doesn't then I think you must keep to "Mrs. Smith" if that is more appropriate for the situation.

Friends, and peers in your age group are always "first name basis"

Strangers are usually "Mrs, Mr... etc"

And, elders, teachers, bosses, supervisors, etc are almost always, without question "Mr, and Mrs"

That never changes, unless they ask you to call them by their first names.
Reply:Age makes no difference. Always show respect. Everyone's different. Some people either come from a background and/or have worked very hard to be successful and feel they deserve to be addressed formally by all but close friends and relatives.

On the flip side, there are others that have every right to be addressed not only as Mr. or Mrs. Smith, but Doctor Smith, yet prefer Joe or Sally instead.

If you show respect to others, you will get respect from others. Only be casual when the person lets you know it's ok.
Reply:Age 18

However, it is all circumstantial. If the person is much older than you, it may be proper to call them "Mrs. Smith," especially our senior citizens.

If the person had been called "Mrs." by you ever since you were small, it may be rude to start calling them by their first name. I have parents of a family friend who are like that. I know their first names, but I'm still going to call them Mr. and Mrs. ____. Same goes for former teachers.
Reply:Well, my neighbors are close friends with my family, so they let me and my sister call them by their first names. However, any teacher or adult I don't know well, I call by their first name.

When you turn 18, if you know an adult well, you can call them by their first name. Personally, I always am a little nervous calling an adult by their first name, even if they ask me, because I'm afraid someone will get offended.
Reply:When Mrs. Smith replies, "Oh, darlin, you can call me Mary!"

Otherwise, only "peers" refer to each other in "familiar" forms. Therefore, if you are of equal (or thereabouts) age to the other, it's, "Hello Mary!" but if one is older, wealthier, higher status, then the RESPECT is still shown, no matter how "adult" YOU are... "Hello, Mrs. Trimborne! How are you and the Senator tonight?"

RESPECT is the deciding factor... always! Whomever is of "lower" status always shows respect to the one of the "higher" level.... "Oh, Mrs. Grainhouse!!! How nice to see you again! I so remember how many good times you and my grandmother had whenever you got together!"

Have a polite day.
Reply:it depends on your relationship with the person, for example.your grandma's friend, would be mrs.smith forever, just because shes so much older than you.

I am a teenager, and with my friends moms and dads, it depends on how close I am with their child. Like, my bestfriends mom. i call her mama bear, but with my other close friends mom I jsut call her kathy.

It all depends on your relationship with the person.
Reply:You use someone's title until they have given you permission not to. It does not matter how old you are, it is respectful to call someone Mr., Mrs., Major, Professor, etc. , until they say you can just call them by their first name.

If its family, go ahead and call them by their first names. Families should not be that formal.
Reply:It depends how well you know the person. For instance, I used to clean houses for a living, and never ever addressed a customer by their first name. There are women in my church whom I've known all my life who will always be "Mrs, Richardson" no matter how old I get. It's a matter of respect in some cases. Unless the Mrs. to you, at some point, asks she be called by her first name, I'd stick with "Mrs. Smith".
Reply:It's not about age it's about the situation and relationship to the person. For children they should ask for or be given permission, or be in such a long standing close relationship that it's okay.
Reply:I always introduce my child to the adult as 'Mr. or Mrs.' if they would rather him call them by their first name they will say so. After you have done it for so long it is tough to just 'stop'. It ends up feeling odd. SOOOO glad to see others with manners!!!
Reply:13, only sometimes tho but usually its a family friend or someone im comfortable with. Or if a friend calls them "mom" or "dad" ill call them by that also
Reply:It is only proper to address an adult by their first name when they ask you to do so.
Reply:When the person invites you to use their first name.
Reply:Never. No matter how old you get, always show respect for your elders! ALWAYS!
Reply:i must be rude but i never called anyone by their mr, mrs etc name

IF you have a long first name do people call you by the short version?

I am thinking of girl baby names, and the ones i come up with are always pretty long. Like Julianna or Katalina. So, are people just going to end up calling my child Julie and Kati? I dont like that, i only like the full lenght name.

IF you have a long first name do people call you by the short version?
i love Julianna! If you tell people that her name is Julianna, they should call her Julianna. Just correct them if they call her Jul, Julie, Anna, or whatever.

Cute name!
Reply:Its the way of the world no one ever takes the time remember your name,or too lazy to say it so they call you what they want.Which sucks
Reply:My name is Rebecca but I have always been called Becky. However, my cousin is 13 and has always been called by her full name...Elizabeth. I think it's what you call them the most, they will go by. But more than likely she will be called by a shorter version a time or two.

My husbands name is James...and he goes by James. When someplace calls here and asks for "Jim" I tell them they have the wrong number :)
Reply:well me name is Catalina(Romanian) an yes my friends call me a lot of short versions (such as Cata,Kate) cause it's easier to pronounce....but in the end it doesn't matter and you get used to it eventually
Reply:I don't know about your children but my name is Katherine and people always call me Katie or Kate I perfer Katie or Kate then Katherine and its a pain in the but to have to write long names on your school papers all day long if I were u I would let your child chose if the want to be called Kati or Julie and if u don't want to then its up to you, but I would let then because it is their name.
Reply:I agree with the people who said that as the parent, you set the stage, but there will always be the people who try to shorten any name. At some point, your child will be able to decide what people call them, regardless of what Mom wants.

My brother went from Jamie to Jim in the 7th grade- my parents continued to call him Jamie for years. He's 44 now and everyone calls him Jim.
Reply:Yes, but you can call her whatever you want. You have to remember that when kids are small it is hard for them to pronounce long names like that and her friends early on will call her a nickname. My name is Alexandra and I go by Alex and Ali. I am now 20 and I have never gone by Alexandra(only when I was in trouble!) Believe me you will get tired of calling out a long name all the time!

♥By the way I love the name Katalina!
Reply:My daughter's name is Mikaela and if someone calls her Kayla. I correct them. My son's name is Loukas and same thing, I don't like Luke so I correct people. I love the two names you have picked...they're beautiful.
Reply:Annaliese so I get called Anna
Reply:I think mostly people will shorten down your name when possible. Some like it, some dont. My name is only 3 letters but it still gets shorten to 2. I dont mind this though, you could always just call your girl the long version.
Reply:yes, people shorten the name. i had a cousing named Kathleen. Her Mother always insisted on no nicknames. In college she was called kathy.
Reply:to bad
Reply:I love Julianna...and tho only way ppl will end up calling her by that name is if she goes by it first...

or maybe her best friends will..but if she doesnt want them to..then they wont!!

They might go by Jules too...but julie and jules are both cute..so its not that bad!
Reply:I absolutely love the name Julianna, but it will get shortened by others. Whether it's Julie or Anna. That is just the way it goes. If you do not like the names shortened then I suggest not using them, but they will grow on ya.
Reply:Leffeontai (Leff-e-on-tai) but I'm just called Leff.
Reply:Iove Katalina but i like you assume people will shorten them. I try to avoid anything I KNOW will be shortened.

I worry people will shorten my 1yr olds name to Wes instead of Westin, and i do not like the name Wes at all. but luckily he's only been called Wesley once.(which isnt a short form so much as the wrong form) so as long as you refrain from ever using a short form i don't think too many people will.
Reply:Most likely her friends at school will shorten her name but you can still call her the full name that you choose all the time. I really like the names you have picked out. And it is possible that people will call her by her full name. I have a friend named Katherine and thats what everyone calls her. So, I guess the more you call her by her full name, the more everyone else will and when she gets older, she can shorten it if she wants to.
Reply:My friends name is Johannah and we all call her JoJo
Reply:I'm Elisabeth, and I've always used my whole name. Sometimes people ask, and I always say that I prefer the full name. Every now and then, someone will call me Liz. Depending on the situation, I'll correct them. Most of the time, though, it's not a problem.

If *you* use her full name, everyone around you will, too.
Reply:If you choose a beautiful long name and insist on it, you can reduce the chances that EVERYONE will call her by a nickname, however there are always going to be people who call her by a nickname, at school and when you are not around. She may not be called by the nickname all the time, but she will definately get it sometimes. There is no way to control it either. Especially once your child gets older, because if they like the nickname, then it will certainly stick.
Reply:I have a short first name, by my grandmother always calls me by my long middle name. Weird, I know.

If you use the full length version on everything, then most people will follow your lead.
Reply:My name Is Christina I get called:

Xtina, Chrissi, Chris, Tina, Marshall (last name) I prefer my real name but I don't mind really
