IF you have a long first name do people call you by the short version?

I am thinking of girl baby names, and the ones i come up with are always pretty long. Like Julianna or Katalina. So, are people just going to end up calling my child Julie and Kati? I dont like that, i only like the full lenght name.

IF you have a long first name do people call you by the short version?
i love Julianna! If you tell people that her name is Julianna, they should call her Julianna. Just correct them if they call her Jul, Julie, Anna, or whatever.

Cute name!
Reply:Its the way of the world no one ever takes the time remember your name,or too lazy to say it so they call you what they want.Which sucks
Reply:My name is Rebecca but I have always been called Becky. However, my cousin is 13 and has always been called by her full name...Elizabeth. I think it's what you call them the most, they will go by. But more than likely she will be called by a shorter version a time or two.

My husbands name is James...and he goes by James. When someplace calls here and asks for "Jim" I tell them they have the wrong number :)
Reply:well me name is Catalina(Romanian) an yes my friends call me a lot of short versions (such as Cata,Kate) cause it's easier to pronounce....but in the end it doesn't matter and you get used to it eventually
Reply:I don't know about your children but my name is Katherine and people always call me Katie or Kate I perfer Katie or Kate then Katherine and its a pain in the but to have to write long names on your school papers all day long if I were u I would let your child chose if the want to be called Kati or Julie and if u don't want to then its up to you, but I would let then because it is their name.
Reply:I agree with the people who said that as the parent, you set the stage, but there will always be the people who try to shorten any name. At some point, your child will be able to decide what people call them, regardless of what Mom wants.

My brother went from Jamie to Jim in the 7th grade- my parents continued to call him Jamie for years. He's 44 now and everyone calls him Jim.
Reply:Yes, but you can call her whatever you want. You have to remember that when kids are small it is hard for them to pronounce long names like that and her friends early on will call her a nickname. My name is Alexandra and I go by Alex and Ali. I am now 20 and I have never gone by Alexandra(only when I was in trouble!) Believe me you will get tired of calling out a long name all the time!

♥By the way I love the name Katalina!
Reply:My daughter's name is Mikaela and if someone calls her Kayla. I correct them. My son's name is Loukas and same thing, I don't like Luke so I correct people. I love the two names you have picked...they're beautiful.
Reply:Annaliese so I get called Anna
Reply:I think mostly people will shorten down your name when possible. Some like it, some dont. My name is only 3 letters but it still gets shorten to 2. I dont mind this though, you could always just call your girl the long version.
Reply:yes, people shorten the name. i had a cousing named Kathleen. Her Mother always insisted on no nicknames. In college she was called kathy.
Reply:to bad
Reply:I love Julianna...and tho only way ppl will end up calling her by that name is if she goes by it first...

or maybe her best friends will..but if she doesnt want them to..then they wont!!

They might go by Jules too...but julie and jules are both cute..so its not that bad!
Reply:I absolutely love the name Julianna, but it will get shortened by others. Whether it's Julie or Anna. That is just the way it goes. If you do not like the names shortened then I suggest not using them, but they will grow on ya.
Reply:Leffeontai (Leff-e-on-tai) but I'm just called Leff.
Reply:Iove Katalina but i like you assume people will shorten them. I try to avoid anything I KNOW will be shortened.

I worry people will shorten my 1yr olds name to Wes instead of Westin, and i do not like the name Wes at all. but luckily he's only been called Wesley once.(which isnt a short form so much as the wrong form) so as long as you refrain from ever using a short form i don't think too many people will.
Reply:Most likely her friends at school will shorten her name but you can still call her the full name that you choose all the time. I really like the names you have picked out. And it is possible that people will call her by her full name. I have a friend named Katherine and thats what everyone calls her. So, I guess the more you call her by her full name, the more everyone else will and when she gets older, she can shorten it if she wants to.
Reply:My friends name is Johannah and we all call her JoJo
Reply:I'm Elisabeth, and I've always used my whole name. Sometimes people ask, and I always say that I prefer the full name. Every now and then, someone will call me Liz. Depending on the situation, I'll correct them. Most of the time, though, it's not a problem.

If *you* use her full name, everyone around you will, too.
Reply:If you choose a beautiful long name and insist on it, you can reduce the chances that EVERYONE will call her by a nickname, however there are always going to be people who call her by a nickname, at school and when you are not around. She may not be called by the nickname all the time, but she will definately get it sometimes. There is no way to control it either. Especially once your child gets older, because if they like the nickname, then it will certainly stick.
Reply:I have a short first name, by my grandmother always calls me by my long middle name. Weird, I know.

If you use the full length version on everything, then most people will follow your lead.
Reply:My name Is Christina I get called:

Xtina, Chrissi, Chris, Tina, Marshall (last name) I prefer my real name but I don't mind really
