Is it a dumb idea to have a signature that is just my first name?

What do you think? I have been signing documents for years with just my first name, it is a unique first name and I guess I was just too lazy to write the whole thing out so it sort of stuck. Is it dumb to sign just my first name or should I go back to the drawing board with my signature and put the whole name in there?

For a signature to be considered legal you must sign your first and last name.
Reply:not at all, more sensibly thinking some people have both first and last names the same - that's way they use social security numbers, etc, to identify people.
Reply:Usually for legal documents it is necessary to sign your first and last name. It is your signature though, so if you dont want to learn how to write your last name really cool and neat, just scribble some lines. Doctors do it all the time, my friend hates signing his name so he just writes the first letter of his first name, scribbles, then the first letter of his last name and scribbles.
Reply:I just scribble a line that no one can read..its my first and last name run together but since no one can read it the content doesn't matter..but its unique to me..even my wife cant forge it
