My brother In Law and his wife are looking for names that are not used much as first and second names. "James" seems to be one of the names they want to use for their new born child which will arrive in September. Please help and answer seriously because this is important to them, thanks.
I am looking for First names that are uncommon and not too modern that work well with the middle name James?

Is the first name Nicolette too much?
I love the first name and feel that it has flare yet my mom made a joke and said, Nicorette.... I don't know. I prefer it yet I wonder if that will cause her distress when she's older from teasing. I would really like some oppions to help me make my decision. Thank you.
Is the first name Nicolette too much?
I think it is a beautiful name. Go with it or you will resent your mother forever.
And when it comes to teasing.....kids will find a way to tease with any name. I named one of my son's Erik and figured no way could anyone tease him...Well, I was wrong. In grammar school some kids called him Earache.
Don't listen to your mother...ok well listen to her, but the big thing to learn is that YOU are the one who makes the choices here. And I am talking about any advice you were given...you are the boss. You are the mom.
I would love to give a child that name..I would use the full name. You might want to give her a nick name or when older she might want a nickname. Nickey or Letie or Cole
Reply:most people will call her nicole or nikki as nick names. i dont know how you mom came up with that clever joke. i wouldnt have thought of it and neither would hav anybody in my eighth grade because no one has thought of calling the Nicolette in my grade, Nicorette! i love the name! go for it! its good!
Reply:Sorry I don't like it. Good luck and congrats!
Reply:Well just tell her never to smoke and people won't make that referrence- lol!
With Nicolette, I think of Nicolette Sheridan from Desperate Housewives and I always makes fun of celebrity's names - Kate BeckinSTALE, Terri Snatcher, Nelli Retardo, but I never thought of Nicorette Sheridan.
I don't think most people will make the nicorette reference, don't worry.
Reply:Before I even clicked on your question and read the details, the first thing that came to mind was "nicorette". I mean, Nicolette is a beautiful name, but the other word was the first thing that popped into my mind! Why I like this name though is becuase it's very down to earth and it's pretty. Maybe you could try a variant of the name like Nichole or something like that?
Reply:It's not a bad name.. and If you really think about it, you can make a joke out of almost ANYBODY'S name.. including mine Casey "Spacy Casey" You go with your instincts.. I was worried when I named my son Brody "Grody Brody". If you love the name.. name your child Nicolette. You don't have control over what people will make fun of..
Reply:No, it's good. I have a friend named Nicolette and it's great becasue it's unique, but not totally out there and unheard of. If she has teasing problems she can go by Nicki.
Reply:It depends. I think it's kind of pretentious on a suburban WASPy kid, but if your family is very European (I've known girls with this name who were French, Polish, etc.) then it's beautiful. Given your mom's reaction, I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you should stick with Nicole.
Reply:No, I know a Nicolette (and she doesn't use a nickname) and it's perfectly fine - no one cracks any jokes to her about it. I think it's a beautiful name, a little more uncommon but still familiar to the ear. Definitely use it if it's your favorite!
Reply:no i have a best friend name nickolette she spells it with a k though i love her name and so does everyone else its unique
Reply:Nicolette is such a great name and NIKI for short is adorable.
Reply:I love it!
Reply:i like Nicolette it very spunky!! Nicorette thats funny and she might get that but everyones name gets made fun of at some point
Reply:Wow. Nicolette Sheridan is so popular right now, and never ONCE did I think of Nicorette when I heard/read her name.
I think it's a nice name. I don't think you need to worry about teasing. But if it bothers you now that your mom mentioned it, maybe you just go with Nicole or Colette (Colette would be my preference).

How can I find my husbands birth parents if I have his dad's last name, his mother's first name, and........?
The town and state he was born in? It was a closed adoption in Irving TX.
How can I find my husbands birth parents if I have his dad's last name, his mother's first name, and........?
You can go to the court house in Dallas, and ask for the records for the year he was born, then go to Irving in the records and see how many babies were born on the same day he was and the same time. The real parents name should be listed.

What are good middle names to go with first name Jane and last name Dickson.. I like Grace?
That's beautiful. I sincerely mean that - Jane Grace. Simple, spelled correctly, a truly classic name.
Thank you so much for being unique without being yoo-neek. Your child will thank you, too.
What are good middle names to go with first name Jane and last name Dickson.. I like Grace?
I like Jane and I like Grace, I just don't think they sound good together. I think you need a middle name with more than one syllable.
How about Jane Gracie or Jane Gracelyn
Reply:Ummm.. I love Grace also, but I think it sounds a little odd with Jane. I think Gracie Jane would sound cute. But, if you are really set on Jane, I think that Elizabeth would sound really pretty as a middle name. Jane Elizabeth Dickson. What do you think?
Reply:I think it sounds great but would suggest against giving two names in a row with only one syllable. Something about the way it's said is harder on the tongue.
Reply:I like Jane Lilia Dickson - or you could spell it - Lily :)
Reply:Jane and Grace have the same sounds. I think they are too much the same to go together. Also, they are both one syllable, I think you need something longer for it.
What about Marie?
Reply:Jane Alexa Dickson?
Jane Diandra Dickson?
Jane Odette Dickson?
Jane Tiara Dickson?
Jane Zsazsa Dickson?

Is it rude or impolite or disrespectful to call the President by his first name?
I like saying Barack sometimes %26amp; Obama but President Obama is what we have to get used to if he wins..is it OKay to keep calling him Barack...I only care about the troops being home safe %26amp; our economy circulating again %26amp; the many other problems resolved...what is the story about how we address him...I know some people will continue to say he is the Messiah, but seriously.
Is it rude or impolite or disrespectful to call the President by his first name?
When you are talking with your friends or whatever, call him what you want But.....
If you ever get the chance to meet him, i would advise you to address him as either President Obama or Mr. President. Anything else would be very rude.
Reply:I think it depends. If you were addressing him in person, I would not use his first name. Even though he is a pretty down-to-earth guy, it is not polite. If you are talking about him in a formal setting (e.g. you are giving a speech and you want to quote him), you should address him as Senator Obama or depending on the outcome of the election, President Obama. If you are referring to him at home or with friends, I don't think it matters.
Reply:If you are addressing the president directly, you call him "Mr. President." If you are referring to him in a public setting, you say "President Obama." If you're at home discussing politics, its ok to say Barack.
I've got a few choice nicknames for our current president, which I shall not reveal here.
Reply:who said he was the Messiah?
anyway, I call him Barack and I don't think it is disrespectful. It's not what you do, but how you do it.
Obama08*
Reply:I don't think he really cares about those petty formalities, to be honest. He's a down-to-earth guy, and going by what SNL and the Daily Show do to all the presidents, they can't afford to get hung up on it.
Reply:No it is not disrespectful to call him President Barack or Barack Obama.
Obama in 09. I voted for him.
Reply:President Obama or Mr. President are the correct ways to address a president. "sir" of course, would always do in a pinch.
Reply:Obama is so down to earth, I really don't think he'd mind. When you address him in public, President or Senator Obama IS APPROPRIATE.
Reply:Yes. Those closest to the President will refer to him as Mr. President. All advisers,Cabinet Members, ect. use this term.
Reply:you can call him whatever you want, freedom of speech ensures that
Reply:I'm sure he would call you by your first name without being asked, so it's only fair that you should be able to do the same.

Why are some artists only known only by their first name?
Leonardo Da Vinci we know, but what about Michelangelo Buonarroti or Raphael Santi? Cher LaPiere? Okay, so sticking to the Renaissance - why is this?
Why are some artists only known only by their first name?
Well some are known by their surnames such as da Vinci Caravaggio and other by nicknames such as Botticelli. It's a more modem concept rather than a Renaissance one. Sometimes in academic writings, names are shortened to aid the writing process and they just stick. For instance is you were writing an essay about Leonardo da Vinci, you would mention the artist's name in full and then refer to him throughout the essay as Leonardo or da Vinci. I believe it's as simple as that and some of these shortened names just stuck.
Reply:So moron girls named Katie can ask stupid questions of strangers on the internet.
Reply:What more do you need to know other than "Cher"?
Reply:At some point they become so renowned that you only need to mention their first name for people to know who you speaking about. At some point it becomes a matter of respect!
Especially with people like Michelangelo, Raphael, etc.
Sometimes it is infamy, and you can get by on simply a middle initial, like W :(
Reply:I work in a collaboration with another artist - its much easier to remember 2 peoples names when they are reduced to one name each - sounds better and looks better on CV's, invitations, business cards, etc. Example: Gilbert and George, Chadwick %26amp; Spector, Christo %26amp; Jean-Claude.... can't offer suggestions for individual artists that do this - but sure helps for collaborative groups.

How do I deal with my son and foster child having the same first name? Help!?
My husband and I are extending our home to a lovely boy from my sons school who needs long term care, but he has the same name as my son. Not sure how to deal with this one appropriately as this potentially could be a permanent arranegement.
How do I deal with my son and foster child having the same first name? Help!?
Sit both boys down and ask if they would like to think up nicknames for at home? It's not fair (and could be traumatic) for one to be called something other than what he is used to.
I have 4 children and each of them has a nickname or a shortened version of their full name. We have Mattea, Mariah, Madalyn and Joel. I am totally all about calling them by their given names. Through friends and family - we now say these names too.
Mattea - called Frances (her middle name), Te-a and teasingly, Franny
Mariah - Cathryn (her middle name) and MiMi (I have no idea why)
Madalyn - Maddy (Everyone at school calls her this)
Joel - Joely (we've called him this since he was a baby, he's the youngest in a house full of sisters) and JZ (his middle name is Zachary)
My kids don't mind their nicknames at all - Ask the boys and I'm sure you can come up with something that everyone is HAPPY and secure feeling with!
Congratulations and I think it's awesome you took the child into your home - you're WONDERFUL!!! I wish you ALL every happiness!
Reply:Why not let the two boys come up with a solution?
Reply:first, you do not change either ones name. not at this age!
he's from your sons school and apparently they can figure it out there. take that lead.
Reply:ask your foster son if he has a nickname that he would prefer. i'm sure you'll find a way to work it out. i think it's great that you are at least opening your home to take this child in.
kudos.
Reply:That would be a tough situation. My suggestion is to find a nick-name for one or the other child. Maybe the foster child would prefer to go by his middle name? Good Luck! That is a tough one.
Reply:My aunt married a man years ago. They both had a son named Michael. Her son became known as Mikey and his son went by Mike. Is there some way to do that with their names? If not, you could call them both by their first and middle names.
Reply:Find a nickname for one or both of them. Maybe the other boy has another name that he prefers, or maybe you could shorten one of their names (Mike and Michael).
Reply:I suggest calling each boy by his true name at first, with maybe the last name or first letter of each last name added. Bobby R., and Bobby T., for example. Yes, that will be a bit hard for everyone to do, but better to be hard on the adults around them, than the boys. Let that be for a couple of days or so. That way it won't overwhelm the boys as much when you do suggest a change for either or both of them. Then if that is too much, or too complicated, I suggest you sit both the boys down and ask them to make suggestions on how to handle this. They will likely have good suggestions, such as nicknames, or middles names, etc., or "Bobby 1" and "Bobby 2" or some other solution. That way, they will feel some ownership with the change, and neither will feel slighted. Please let us know how this works out!
Reply:Whats the name? Maybe we could help you to come up with a nickname?
A nickname for both is a good idea. I lived with my aunt for a while and we both have the same name, (Gillian), so I was Jill, and she was Jilly.
Reply:We have a situation where i work where there are 4 Bobs out of of 12 people. One of the co-workers made up a fun way of knowing who was who by adding a description before each name. So there's triple bob (a play on his last name), big bob - its obvious if you say him, tall bob (me), and new bob. Something like this might work as long as the names are not embarrassing or demeaning.
Reply:I agree, nicknames are a good way to solve this. I love nicknames. My teenage boys and my 2 yr old have nicknames. Mainly used by us around here, but the boys love it..the older ones are "too cool" to admit it, but when their Uncle who gave them the nick names calls them by it..they light up. My oldset son, Seth is sort of "accident prone" ;)..so we call him "stitch" because he has had a lot of trips to the emergency room to get stitches..lol..my middle son, Chase..he likes the Georgia Blulldogs, so we call him "Bulldog". My youngest, Bryson...well he dubbed himself "Bubba" because he couldn't say Bryson!! Anyway, just have fun w/ the nick names and I hope this helps.
Reply:Use first and middle to address them, use a nickname, maybe the foster son wants a new name to go with his new life, there are plenty of ways to deal with it. Talk to both the boys and see what they come up with.
Reply:I would for sure use their first AND middle names to address them.
Reply:Call them by first and last initial [ Michael A and Michael B. ]
When correcting or disciplining them, try Michael John Andrews; and Michael David Brown! Middle names seem to have more power in times of reprimand.
PS: my husband and I have 28 nieces and nephews, plus at least as many 'greats' - including two Christines, two Katherines, two Michaels, two Sams, two Anns, and three Rons!
Reply:For 4 years I lived in a foster home where my foster sister had the same name. We used big Samone and little Samone. Never had any problems
Reply:My best friend growing up had a foster sister who had the same name. They lived together for many years until they went to University and it was never that big of a deal. Over time one of them ended up using a nickname more but I think everyone just got used to it.
Reply:we had the same problem with a foster kid. my parents just called her by her middle name and kept my sisters name the same
Reply:Ask the boys what they are comfortable with!
Reply:I'd call your husband "Daddy ???" and your new son by his name "???". I wouldn't change the child's name at all... he needs stability in his life.

Do you feel pressure to give your children a first name consistent with their cultural or ethnic background?
For example, it would be unusual to meet an Italian boy named Malik, or a Russian girl named Shaniqua, or a Japanese boy named Connor, or a Mexican girl named Helga.
Not wrong, perhaps odd, but definitely unusual.
Or what if your children are of mixed race? How do you decide a background to follow?
Is a name a way of assigning a child some framework of identity before the development of a personality?
At the risk of sounding racist, what are some "unusual" combinations you've seen of names and race?
Do you feel pressure to give your children a first name consistent with their cultural or ethnic background?
I think you're right there, it would definitely be very rare to find the examples you mentioned and I do agree that a name assigns identity, e.g you would immediately presume that a boy named Raj is of indian origin, and it's very likely that would be the case. There are exeptions when it comes to some countries, in Africa for example people from certain countries there tend to have western names but I think this is more due to the politics of western countries holding territory in the past. The oppisite is very rare, I think people name their kids to fit into their culture and it makes sense. I live in Wales and both I and my son have welsh names, I always intended giving him a welsh name, I suppose it's a 'loyalty to your country' issue, I can't think of any strange examples, everyone I know has a name that is related their culture pretty much.
Reply:Yes because I hear other blacks that will say that black people give their children "ghetto or black" names that it will sat them back in the future, but once a black person give their child a "white name" like Stephanie or Hailee then they want to ask them why did you give your child that "white name". I think people should name their kids what they like and if the child grows up to hate the name than they can change it.
Reply:I'm white, my husband is Mexican. We have one girl, Hannah Elise, which sounds very white for being half hispanic and one boy, which of course, sticking with cultural, has his daddy's name, Roberto, and his middle name is my maiden name, Henry, but in Spanish, Enrique. So our daughter has a very white name, and our son completely hispanic. I guess it just depends on which way you want to go. I haven't heard any "unusual" combinations, but I'm sure there are some out there!
Reply:2 of my kids are half Hungarian- but we have not found Hungarian names that translate or 'fit' into English easily, except for Ava, which is a little too popular for my likings these days, though it's lovely. So, for this one due next week, were it to be a boy it was going to have "Sandor' for the middle name, as it's his Dad's name (pronounced 'Shawn-door,', everyone calls my hubby Shawn)...but it's a girl, so 'Julianna' will be her middle name, which is Hungarian and my MIl's name.
Reply:my son is mixed race half black half white he is not italian but i liked the name Anthony so i named him Anthony Jermaine (the middle name after his father) i am 7 months pregnant with a mixed girl we are naming her Alexis Torie-renee i dont even know what ethnicity that is but the 2 middle name thing was the fathers idea (he is black im white)
Reply:my boyfriend is of mixed race and his name kendale he's black and white, and he identifies as black, mostly, which there's nothing wrong with that as i get into that part of american culture.

First names that flow with the middle name Stephen?
We just CANNOT decide or agree on a name for a boy. Stephen is a family name and we want it for the middle name. What are some names that really flow with it?

Do you like the name Isaac, Luke, or Jonah better for a first name?
We are having our second boy in september and having a hard time deciding between the 3. What do you think?
Do you like the name Isaac, Luke, or Jonah better for a first name?
i love all of them but will have to say
Jonah bc Isaac is becoming more popular and i no what it is like to be one of 11 in ur year at school (im Hannah)
and Luke is always popular .
maybe use Jonah Isaac or Jonah Luke
Reply:Isaac was the result of Abraham not believing that God would give him a son. So he took a concubine and made one himself. He's a result of Abraham's lack of faith in God. For that reason, I'd nix Isaac.
Luke and Jonah are much, much better. I like Jonah best. His story is a picture of Christ's resurrection. Great!
Reply:I like Jonah the best. It's less common than the other two. I like that they are all biblical names. But, I think it is important to say that your second son's name should go along with your first son's name. So see how all the names sound with your other child's name before choosing one. Many Blessings :)
Reply:I loved the name Isaac when I was pregnant with my last son but I couldn't persuade my husband (we now have a Fraser James instead)....but I'd never considered the name Jonah and I really love it...not so keen on Luke...it has a harsh sound.
All the best with the little one x

Why is it that Yao Ming has a Jersey with his first name in the back in stead of his last name?
Do any other players do that also.
Why is it that Yao Ming has a Jersey with his first name in the back in stead of his last name?
While it may seem that Yao is his first name, it's actually not. This is because in China, the family name (called "last name" in America) is said first. So his name is pronounced "Yao Ming" in China. In the US, last names are usually put at the end (Ming Yao). However, to keep his name consistent with how it's pronounced in China, it's pronounced "Yao Ming" here as well.
To answer your second question, yes. I know of three other players who have a similar situation with their name. Yi Jianlian of the New Jersey Nets and Sun Yue of the LA Lakers are both from China, and their names follow the same rule as Yao's (described above). "Yi" and "Sun" are the names on their respective jerseys. However, Nene Hilario's (of the Denver Nuggets) situation is a little different. "Nene" is his first name and "Hilario" is his last name, but in Brazil, where he is from, many people are known only by their first name. Therefore, since this first name is a lot more important to them, his first name "Nene" is the one on his jersey.

The NBA puts the last name on the jerseys, and since it is said "Ming Yao", they put on "Yao"

What if my e tickets first name is spelled wrong ... will i have a problem collecting a boarding pass?
Yes! That is the primary thing that the person at security looks for when you present your ID... the names must match... Call the airline and inform them of the correction...
What if my e tickets first name is spelled wrong ... will i have a problem collecting a boarding pass?
yes, it is highly possible. try and get it corrected if possible to avoid hassle at airports.
Reply:Yes of course.
They issue you a boarding pass based on your e-ticket as well as your passport.
Try and get your e-ticket amended.
Reply:Just explain it to the person you are checking in with what happend. As long as it is a simple misspelling you should be a-okay.
Reply:I shouldnt matter if its still the same name just spelt differently, hopefully you'll get a nice, understanding person to check you in and not someone who thinks that they own the airline and has read the rule book last night in bed. Alone. Goodluck!

Reply:i think Jonah. i think its a very cute name and it has history to it. thats just one opinion, good luck choosing a name!!!

Jonah is ok
Luke is great. It's strong and masculine... good choice..

3. Isaac

Reply:In China, the last name is said before the first name, so it would be "Ming Yao"
The NBA puts the last name on the jerseys, and since it is said "Ming Yao", they put on "Yao"
Reply:His real first name is Ming but they wanted it sound more american so they made it Yao Ming. (i read it in a magazine)

Alone. Goodluck!

.. you know so many names sound great with that, very strong, maybe you should look at the meanings as well as the names to pick something really special. Almost every name in my head sounds nice, strong, important and powerful.
Good luck, I would love to know what you pick! That is a great name!
